The Youth Guidance 2015 Fall Enrichment classes for After School at STEM Magnet Academy are now available!

ENRICHMENT CLASSES NEED A MINIMUM AT THE BEGINNG OF THE
SESSION TO START CLASSES.
Fall session runs from Monday, September 21st –
Friday, December 4th. This is a 8-11
week session depending on the day of the week the class is held.
Families registering as enrichment only have an option to
sign up for a homework/recess time from either 3:00-4:00 or 4:00-5:00 at
$15/class. This is an option
Monday-Thursday and the session will run as enrichments do, Monday, September
21st – Friday, December 4th.

BASKETBALL

This Basketball program
offers instruction for each player to allow the player to build a solid
foundation. This program teaches every
aspect of the game for this age level and puts a player in a position to play
both competitively and as a lifetime recreational activity. Classes are fun, informative and teach early
basketball skills such as shooting, dribbling, passing along with the basic
rules of the game. Each class includes instruction
and simulated games.

PRIVATE PIANO OR
VOICE LESSONS

Grades K-7
Private music lessons will be offered by the Chicago School
of Music and run from Sept 21-Nov 30, 2015.
The cost is $45/$35 per 30 minute one-on-one session and will be added
as an additional fee to your monthly Youth Guidance invoice. Students must
commit to attending their assigned day and time every week for the session. Each instructor will have specific tools for
measuring each student’s progress and will maintain close communication with
parents through email, phone, and in person contact.
Lesson times are determined on a first come first serve
basis and are consistent for the session. If classes are missed and unpaid,
spot may be given to another student.
Times are as follows: 3:00-3:30pm, 3:30pm- 4:00pm,
4:00-4:30pm, 4:30-5:00pm, and 5:00pm-5:30pm.
Designate your TOP THREE choices by marking 1, 2, or 3 in
the box on the registration form and we will do our best to accommodate your
schedule. 3 PRIVATE LESSON TIME SLOTS MUST BE FILLED IN ORDER FOR ANY OF THE
PRIVATE LESSONS TO RUN!

(Fees are paid on a monthly basis, due the 20th of the month

Children must be registered for programing on days up until
of their private lesson time, children will participate in a homework/recess
time during the time period when not in their lesson.

We do not only teach the game of
chess, but turn learning into a game itself.
Students will learn chess topics by demonstration lessons, answering
questions, solving puzzle sheets, and applying skills they have learned to
their games. The goal is for students to practice techniques on many different
levels to progress their skills to the next level.

QUIZ QUEST FEST

Students who love to learn and explore
the subjects they know best and want to develop will love Mr. Nall's Game
Show! Each week, students will collaborate in teams with original names, team
logos, and working buzzers to answer Mr. Nall's Brain Quiz Quest Fest.
Categories explored will be Math, Science, Pop Culture, U.S.A. and
Reading. Teams that win will get to choose group games at recess, a special
seat in the lunchroom, and even get the chance to be the host of their own
end-of-the show dance show!

LYRICAL HIP-HOP/JAZZ-FUNK DANCE CLASS

SCRATCH DESIGN

Scratch is a user-friendly,
interactive website that allows users to create their own video games,
animations, and computer graphics through the colorful process of introductory
computer coding. Students will learn the basics of coding and create drawings
that come to life, video games they can play and compete against each other,
graphics they can mail to friends and family. This class requires parents to
allow their children permission to create a Scratch account at home.

GROUP VIOLIN
Lessons-Beginner (Min 7 students)

The beginner class consists of students who have little or
no experience playing the violin. The students first learn the different parts,
care for the instrument and the basic techniques of holding and handling the
violin and bow. Once mastered, students will learn via call and response and by
rote. Students will learn the value of
daily and routine practice. The A-Major scale will be learned and the repertoire
will be similar to that of Suzuki Bk 1.
The ensemble will culminate in a performance at the end of the session.

BOOK

This class is and
immersive and enrichment program that will develop the students’ ability to
understand, speak, read, and write in Spanish.
Communication is the objective of the class. Students’ will use Spanish actively to
interact with other students. Grammar will be used as a tool to reinforce
students’ language skills. Children will be exposed to Spanish and Latin art,
culture and geography.

GROUP GUITAR
Lessons-Beginner (Min 7 students)

Young guitarists
will learn the fundamentals of playing guitar and basic note reading in a small
group setting. Each 60 minute class students will learn to read rhythmic and
pitch notation while playing songs with other students their age. Students will
learn the discipline of time management and how to manage their practice time
at home in order to prepare for each weekly class. Students will perform
regularly for each other in the class, and all class participants will
participate in a final end of the year performance.

LEGO LEAGUE

Grade K-3
Junior FIRST® LEGO® League (Jr.FLL®) captures young
children’s inherent curiosity and directs it toward discovering the wonders of
science and technology. Jr.FLL was developed to introduce 6 to 9 year-olds
(grades K-3) to science concepts and teamwork.
Jr.FLL was created through a partnership between FIRST® (For Inspiration
and Recognition of Science and Technology) and the LEGO Group.
Children will design and construct a model using LEGO bricks
and motorized moving parts. They will
present their research journey on a poster, learn teamwork skills, and build
self-confidents, knowledge and life skills.

THE GAME OF LIFE

This class will be playing the Game of Life and discussing
the meaning behind the purpose of the game and all of the steps along the way.
The class will culminate in creating our own version of The Game of Life in a
way that the students see fit.
The purpose of this class is to learn about social
expectations in all regards and how they’re expressed through all mediums. It’s
a great platform for children to learn what they want from life but also what
they have been taught from life. It’s a space to unwind but also learn so much
about what society expects from you.

Students will relate photos (photos will be taken before

Life Lessons with
Uncle Grandpa
Instructor – Ms. Lang
Grades 4-7
Students will watch an episode of Uncle Grandpa
and analyze the situations, problems and relationships to understand the life
lessons of the show. Students will
analyses and resolve these life issues in the classroom and ultimately
conceptualize our own idea for an Uncle Grandpa show.
Students will also learn about the process
behind submitting ideas and engaging media.
