Pot of Gold- A collection of comics about St. Patrick's Day!

Last week for Comic Book class, the students took on the challenge of writing and drawing comics centered on the theme of St. Patrick's Day. And lo and behold, they faced that challenge head on and completed it! Mr. Nall assembled their comics together and put them all in a comic book called 'Pot of Gold'.

Featured inside are stories about a little girl looking for a four-leaf clover only to fall into the hands of a tricky leprechaun, a fight scene between Iron Man and a leprechaun, the obstacles that come with searching for a pot of gold, and a shape-shifting leprechaun robot showing off his amazing transforming powers!

These comics, to say the least, are incredibly SUPER-AWESOME! The students did a great job coming up with ideas for stories, planning out the sequence of their stories, and keeping their ideas original and colorful.

Mr. Nall was so proud of the job the comic book students did, he's decided to take copies of 'Pot of Gold' with him to the Rhode Island Independent Publisher's Expo (RIPExpo) in Providence, RI at the end of the month. There, he will sell copies of the comic book for $1 and all the proceeds will go towards funding the after school program, helping us buy more pencils, crayons, and paper to make more comics!

What We've Been Up To- Graphic Design Class

A few weeks ago in our Graphic Design class, we gathered our essential tools: paper, pencils, scissors, and crayons and set out to create something that the entire school could see.

Our mission: to make a banner that expressed different ideas, expressions, and our favorite things about STEM Magnet Academy. Some students wrote phrases like 'STEM is Awesome!', some drew the multicolored STEM logo, and others cut out drawings of the school building and silly doodles (ya know, like gigantic pickles dancing around saying 'Yay!'
It's great being a pickle when you're at STEM!

After finishing a stack of flags, we unraveled a nearly 20-foot piece of yarn, punched holes into the flags, and began the long process of threading each flag down the long piece of twine.

Now comes the best part... STUDENTS WORKING TOGETHER!!! While some students held the yarn up in the arm, so that the flags would not become clumped together, others placed the numerous pieces of paper in through the yarn, and after a matter of minutes, the students had created a beautiful School Appreciation banner!!!

Origami puppies (please take note of mustaches)
The next week, a student in the Graphic Design class, Angelena, wanted to lead a workshop one Friday afternoon. Angelena is a very talented origami artist and was thrilled to lead the other students in making paper hearts, puppies, and boats. Two other Graphic Design students/Paper-Folding Gurus, Sophia, Emily and Grace, helped lead the class as well.

Some students added adorable faces (even mustaches!) to their puppies. It's always a joy to see students take the lead and help others learn new special skills! Way to go Graphic Design!
