A few weeks ago in our Graphic Design class, we gathered our essential tools: paper, pencils, scissors, and crayons and set out to create something that the entire school could see.
Our mission: to make a banner that expressed different ideas, expressions, and our favorite things about STEM Magnet Academy. Some students wrote phrases like 'STEM is Awesome!', some drew the multicolored STEM logo, and others cut out drawings of the school building and silly doodles (ya know, like gigantic pickles dancing around saying 'Yay!')
After finishing a stack of flags, we unraveled a nearly 20-foot piece of yarn, punched holes into the flags, and began the long process of threading each flag down the long piece of twine.
Now comes the best part... STUDENTS WORKING TOGETHER!!! While some students held the yarn up in the arm, so that the flags would not become clumped together, others placed the numerous pieces of paper in through the yarn, and after a matter of minutes, the students had created a beautiful School Appreciation banner!!!

The next week, a student in the Graphic Design class, Angelena, wanted to lead a workshop one Friday afternoon. Angelena is a very talented origami artist and was thrilled to lead the other students in making paper hearts, puppies, and boats. Two other Graphic Design students/Paper-Folding Gurus, Sophia, Emily and Grace, helped lead the class as well.
Some students added adorable faces (even mustaches!) to their puppies. It's always a joy to see students take the lead and help others learn new special skills! Way to go Graphic Design!
